…because those who are led by the
Spirit of God are sons of God…
—Romans 8:14

Dear Partners and Friends,

As I sit down to write you this month, I really want to help you step over the obstacles that have kept your faith from creating and accessing the things you pray about. The truth is, you probably know enough about faith to write a book or two. The question I would ask is whether or not you have enough biblical results of your faith to fill the pages. When most people are honest, they’ll admit that they’ve seen God move in their life from time to time, but have failed to see God moving in the miraculous way they’ve desired. I believe that’s because many understand how God works through faith, but they haven’t been able to see where He’s about to work.
What I mean is this: God doesn’t respond to wants, desires, crying, fear or need. He does, however, respond to faith. But the part of faith that makes faith work is not just belief—it’s doing something unfamiliar with a complete confidence that God will meet you there and fill any holes or strengthen any shortcomings you might encounter. You can’t do that unless you know that you know that you know what you’re doing is God’s will. And you won’t be able to determine God’s will for you, your family or your ministry if you don’t know how to be led by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said the Holy Ghost would show us things to come. The Apostle Paul wrote that no eye has seen or mind can conceive the things that God has prepared for us, but that He reveals them to us by His Spirit. In the book of Romans, we find that those who are led by the Holy Spirit are able to walk in the rights of the firstborn and fully-matured son. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would take from the Father all things and make them known to us. The book of James clarifies and says that if we lack wisdom, then all we have to do is ask God and He will give wisdom liberally, generously and without finding fault. Finally, we find in the Holy Scriptures that we have been given the mind of Christ.

Let me put it as plainly and simply as I possibly can: you will never walk in the faith that heals the sick, casts out devils and produces an overflowing lifestyle of giving until you learn to be led by the Holy Ghost who lives within you. If you train yourself to think out of your spirit, causing your mind to reconcile itself to the Word, then your faith will move mountains with great consistency. You have to be led by the Holy Spirit!

That means you have to know His voice, how He moves and when He speaks. Most Christians have become so accustomed to dismissing the leading of the Holy Spirit during any time but church time that they don’t even know when He is speaking anymore. They are waiting for that big, booming voice from the clouds, when all along there has been a still small voice they chose to ignore.

Some dismiss anything He says that’s not dramatic or out of the norm for them. Yet the truth of the matter is that God rarely asks us to take great steps of faith out into the unknown. He seldom leads somebody to walk out into nothing and He’ll never ask us to walk into darkness. No, God only asks us to walk in the light we have. The problem is, the light He gives us will rarely show us as far down the path as we would like. But there is light—the light of the Holy Ghost and the light of His Word.
Those two together will light the path He asks you to take, the decisions that you have to make and the friends you may have to forsake. We have become so accustom to walking by sight and by the circumstances around us that many of us refuse to step out where God shows a little light because we’re afraid we are going to miss Him. And then, in an attempt to sound like our decision not to follow God was the right thing to do, we say things like, “Well, you know brother, you have to use wisdom,” or “It’s good to have many counselors.” Listen, that particular scripture is talking about going to war. As far as I can tell, acting on the Word of God is the wisest thing a man could do.
A life of faith requires a life of being led. That means we move when God says to move and we stay when God tells us to stay. The children of Israel had to get up every morning and see if the cloud was going to move that day. So why can’t we get up every day and follow His leading? The answer is, we can! If you will consistently be led by the Holy Ghost, you will consistently see God moving in your life. He’ll lead you right into the good works that He prepared in advance for you to do. He’ll lead you away from temptation, sickness, disease and poverty. He’ll lead you into one miracle after another, if you’re led by His Spirit.
